What is this programme about?

Purpose of the Programme

Skim Perlindungan Nasional B40 (mySalam) provides health insurance coverage for eligible low-income Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat (BSH) recipients and also M40 Malaysians who earn less than RM100,000 per annum who seek treatment at government hospitals. mySalam coverage took effect on 1 January 2019. The expanded benefits commenced on 1 January 2020. Eligible M40 recipients can register between 11 February and 31 March 2020. 

Who is eligible to apply?

This free takaful income assistance scheme will benefit two main categories of Malaysians.

  1. Registered Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) recipients:-

    • Individuals age between 18 and 65 with spouse.

    • Single individuals age between 40 and 65 with an income of less than RM24,000/annum.

    • Disabled individuals aged between 18 and 65 with an income of less than RM24,000/annum.

  2. Non-Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) recipients:-

    • age between 18 and 65. 

    • annual income of up to RM100,000/annum.

Notes on eligibility

  • BSH Recipient who is a single parent (due to divorce or death of spouse) with children, are eligible for mySalam coverage.

  •  

  • Recipients of BSH (single category) who have never been married, a widow/ widower without children, are eligible for the coverage offered by the mySalam scheme.

  •  

  • Eligible recipients of the mySalam scheme are recipients of Bantuan Sara Hidup, aged 18 to 65. For more information on Bantuan Sara Hidup, please refer Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN)'s website.

What are the benefits of MySalam?

The benefits of this public health insurance are based on the income group of the recipients. 

 

  1. For Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat (BSH) recipients

    • A one-time RM8,000 cash payout upon diagnosis of one of the 45 Critical Illnesses

    • daily hospitalisation income replacement of RM50 up to RM700 per annum for treatment/hospitalisation at any government, military or university hospitals.

  2. For Non-Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat (BSH) recipients

    • A one-time RM4,000 cash payout upon diagnosis of one of the 45 Critical Illnesses

    • daily hospitalisation income replacement of RM50 up to RM700 per annum for treatment/hospitalisation at any government, military or university hospitals.

What are the benefits of MySalam?

Originally, the scheme covers only 36 critical illnesses which include cancer, heart attack and Alzheimer's. Effective January  01, 2020,  the public health protection scheme coverage has added nine more critical diseases including polio, making it 45 illnesses against 36 before.

The benefits of the programme

  1. Subsidised annual health insurance premium of RM112 for five years.

  2. Upon diagnosing and hospitalisation for treatment, the eligible recipient will receive:-

  • A one-off payment of RM8,000.

  • A daily income replacement payment of RM50 for up to 14 days

 

Who can apply? 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Malaysian citizen.

  • Resident in Malaysia

  • Recipients of the government's Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat 2019 (BSHR)

  • Age 18 to 55
