What is this programme about?
The People's Housing Program (PPRM) is a government social public housing initiative to resettle squatters and provide housing for low-income households. Applicants have a choice to purchase or rent these low-cost units. These affordable homes are sold to the public between RM30,000 to RM42,000 a unit. The government subsidises both the building and land costs of these development projects.
These projects are built using standardised designs and specifications (National Housing Standard for Low-Cost Housing Flats (CIS2)) and they comprise of low and medium cost terrace houses, multi-storey flats and 5-storey walk-up flats in urban areas. This programme is under the purview of the National Housing Department, an agency under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and implemented through local and state governments. PPRM houses are sold at prices ranging from RM30,000 and RM35,000 per unit in Peninsular Malaysia and RM42,000 in Sabah and Sarawak.
