What is this programme about?
The Supplemental Food Plan (RMT) programme for poor students, under the purview of the Ministry of Education, is a food aid programme for primary school students from low-income households. The scheme aims to provide nutritious food with balanced nutrients for better physical and mental growth to help students excel in their studies.
The RMT programme provides eligible students with daily fully subsidised nutritious meals which cost between RM1.80 to RM2.05 per student per day during recess throughout the 190 school days in a year.
The Supplementary Food Scheme Committee selects a food supplier who is responsible for managing the supply of food, preparing and serving the food, cleaning the equipment and serving area. The school will choose 5 or 10 menus from a list of 20 menus prepared by the Ministry of Education and these menus are repeated every week or two weeks according to local taste, the capacity of the food supplier and conformity with the financial allocations.
