What is this programme about?  

Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA)
The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) was founded in 1965 as the marketing agency established under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia. It was established for the purpose of supervision, coordination, monitoring and promotion of agricultural products, including importation and exportation.

Some of the services provided by FAMA are as follows:


Affordable Pricing of Essential Agro-Food Products
Pricing of basic food essentials is crucial in providing food security to Malaysians of all income segments. FAMA procures agro-based products directly from farmers at a market farm prices then sell them on to consumers at a reasonably low price to consumers.  By buying directly from the farms, FAMA removes the middle trading man/men, hence shortening the supply chain, allowing the products to enter the market at reduced retail prices.


FAMA Collection and Distribution Centres
FAMA has set up Collection Centre (CC) and Collection Complex (KPL) at the agricultural production output stage. This project is aimed to resolve the agriculture marketing problems thru post-harvest handling practice, quality grading improvement and labelling as an agriculture information channel. As of to date, FAMA has set up 91 collection centre comprising of 2,232 participants. 

FAMA has also created Distribution Centres (DC) in major town areas near to the wholesale market complex.  Distribution Centre (DC) acts as product received and value-added centre which later distributes the agricultural products to supermarkets and institutions network. Distribution Centre is equipped with facilities to repackage, provide storage, fermentation and logistics delivery service.

Besides as an agricultural product distribution centre, it serves as an information distribution centre to the farmers and producers related to product marketing and technology. Currently, there are as many as 14 FAMA Distribution Centres operating nationwide.

OLEMAS is a national brand of small and medium industry (SMI) food products that pass a quality standard which enables them to compete better with other products in the market.

The SMI product output branding programme is developed between agencies and departments under Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry. This cooperation has resulted in six types of products in the market since the year 2004 such as Honey Sri Kaya Madu, Honey Mixed Fruit Sauce, Chilli Sauce, Chilli Soy Sauce, Chilli Pineapple Sauce and Percik's gravy.

AGROMAS is also a product brand distributed by FAMA. Products chosen under the AGROMAS brand are selected due to their potential to be developed.  It's comprised of FAMA's own products and from competitive and advanced local SMI entrepreneurs.

Some of the retail services provided by FAMA are as follows:

Accessible Wide Retail Network
FAMA sets up, organises and manages the largest local food products retail network which includes the different types of “Pasar Tani”, Agro Bazaar online and retail shops. Other than direct retail to end consumers, FAMA also distributes locally processed products to wholesalers such as Mydin and several large retail hypermarkets and supermarkets. 


FAMA Supply Chain Management
From farm to consumers, the concept of bringing farm produce closer to end-consumers by shortening the supply chain is the very basis of FAMA's objective to deliver affordable quality food products to Malaysians of all walks of life.


Contract Farming 
Using contract farming FAMA buys crops produced directly from the farms. Through contract farming, FAMA gets a constant supply of farm products at a specified quality at fair farm prices.  These products are then sold nationwide through FAMA wide marketing network which includes the following

  • Wholesale Market / TEMAN/ Fresh Fruit Stall (GBBS)

  • Hypermarket and Supermarket Chains

  • Retail - Farmers' Market, Night Market and network minimarket/shop

  • Institutional buyers such as MAS, Institutions of Higher Education and Institutes of Teacher Education

  • Agro-based Entrepreneurs

  • Exports
